At Rhodes University, the Safety, Health and Environmental Officer - SHE Officer - reports to The Registrar?. The SHE Office is located in the Registrar's Division: Eden Grove building, Lucas Avenue. Email: or and RU extension: 8278. 

The role of the SHE Officer at the University

The Rhodes University Safety Health and Environmental officer (SHE) provides support to the University Management in its efforts to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and other relevant Acts. She also assists in the different departments to develop new OHS/ SHE procedures and proper implementation of existing ones. Her work also includes assisting the faculties and the various departments develop injury and incident prevention strategies for their respective areas. Amongst others:

  • To ensure that all incidents that have occurred are investigated and reported to the department of labor where necessary.
  • Review and analyze injury and incident reports and data to ensure that preventative measures are in place to prevent re occurrence.
  • To asses and approve contractor's health and safety plans appointed by the university before carrying out any work at the university.

  • Wellness
